How To Eat Healthy On A Budget
Eating healthy can get pretty expensive! But luckily there are ways to scale back on purchasing unnecessary foods, eking out more money for you to spend on healthier options.
1. Cook at home. Not only is this a cheaper option, it's also safer! You have control of your portions and how much sodium or other hidden ingredients that may be added to your dish.
2. Meal Prepping is essential! Think of a few days worth of meal options and write them down. This will keep you from aimlessly wondering through the grocery store, picking up items you do not need.
3. Do not be afraid to buy generic brands! Depending on where you shop, there is always a generic option. All food manufacturers have to follow protocol when it comes to providing safe foods. The generic brands may be the same quality, just cheaper. Still read your labels.
4. Stop buying junk food. Most of us have kids who need lunch and snack for home and school. If you're craving something sweet or cake-like, bake your own cakes and cookies. There are healthy mixes to chose from. Not only is this way healthier, but it's cheaper and lasts longer.
5. Buy in bulk! Joining a member only, whole sale food club, such as BJ's, Costco and even Amazon can save you a ton. Especially if you have a big family or if you use a specific product on a daily basis, such as fruits and veggies.
